Since the Columbine High School shooting, we have struggled to come up with safety measures to protect our children from gun violence in schools. Adding SROs or Constables does not prevent school shootings. I do not believe turning our schools into fortresses will prevent future shootings. A better course of action would be to identify students suffering from mental health issues and link them too resources. We can better fund resources dedicated to mental health, conflict resolution, and deescalation tactics to prevent future in school violence. Additionally, schools can do a better job of warning parents and local authorities about at risk students.

When I am elected, I will work with my counterparts to ensure justice and education is equitable to all of Delaware's children. I will work to ensure that underserved communities have schools that are properly funded with resources needed to teach our children. I will ensure that our juvenile system is rehabilitative and not punitive and that children leaving the juvenile system are able to readjust back in society.

  • Immigrants’ Rights

  • Yes

I will sponsor legislation that will make all immigrants eligible for medical benefits, SNAP benefits, and public-school education that reside in our state. This way we can ensure all children in our state are healthy, will not go hungry, and will have the opportunity for k-12 education. Immigrants play a vital role in our state's economy, and I will work to ensure those immigrants are protected, while awaiting a determination on their citizenship.

Policing in Delaware needs transparency; therefore, we must change the language in the Delaware Police Officer Bill of Rights. When I am elected, I will work endlessly with law makers to sponsor a bill that ensures accountability for law enforcement officers who violate their oath and badge. I believe policing in Delaware must undergo a paradigm shift in culture and accountability. We can no longer allow law enforcement agencies to shield bad police officers under the guise of internal investigations, semantics of on-going criminal investigations, or the illusions that no criminal charges resulted in the ensuing investigation. Transparency is the hallmark of our democracy, no profession is above scrutiny, not even the police. Therefore, we must use the state legislature to develop new policies on policing that allows police officers to do their jobs but also allows the public to feel confident in their services.

Police Advisory Boards allow for communities to interact with their local police departments beyond just surface and remedial conversations. Advisory boards give communities a voice to hold police departments accountable.

Yes. I believe having access to affordable health insurance lends to the strength and vitality of individuals and communities. Requiring insurance companies (state, federal, or private) to provide sexual and reproductive health care creates healthier people and communities. There should not be a caveat for getting an abortion. Any woman who wants to get an abortion, should be able to get one. If elected, I would work to ensure this language is removed from Medicaid provisions to allow women to get an abortion.

  • Yes

Yes. I believe abortion is healthcare like the majority of Americans. I do not believe judges, politicians, or religious zealots have any business in the examination rooms with women and their healthcare practitioners. I will continue to fight to ensure abortion remains codified law in Delaware and that Delaware is a safe place for visitors to access abortions.

  • Yes

Yes. As Delawareans, it is the responsibility of all of us to ensure healthcare is equitable in our state. I would sponsor and support legislation that will properly fund and support the treatment and care of Black mothers and babies in our state. We have a responsibility to ensure all mothers have a safe and fulling pregnancy and labor, and that their babies are provided with the same care. This includes mothers who want to use alternative resources during their labor.
